Assam Flood Claims Another 11 in 24-Hours

Although the water level in the Brahmaputra has reduced, the flood situation in the state has not improved as it claims another 11 lives in the last 24 hours from Morigaon, Baihata, Nagarbera, Bilasipara, Narayanguri and South Salmara including children and girl.

A man wentmissing in a boat accident at Morigaon while a school has been washed away inflood. Moreover, in Pobitora a buffalo attacked a child causing him severeinjury.

Meanwhile, it has been alleged that people have not yet received relief materials in the camps and the flood victims have to fight for their lives. It has been reported that in Morigaon, the death toll due to flood has risen to 17. Although the water has reduced but still flood situation remains grim and many villages in the district are still submerged under-water.

As per thedata of Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the death toll has touched27 till July 18 but with another new record which claims 11, the toll rises to38 which are likely to go up till the flood situation improves. Over 4,000villages in 28 districts of the 33 districts in the state have been affected.

Out of the 3crore population in the state, more than 53 lakhs people are under threat whileclose to 1000 houses have been damaged. 88 numbers of animals were killed inKaziranga due to the heavy flood in Kaziranga National Park and over 16 lakhanimals including livestock have been affected.
