Assam by-poll: BJP leading in 3 out of 4 seats

BJP has been leading in three out of four constituencies in Assam assembly by-elections. The saffron party is leading in Rangapara, Ratabari and in Sonari constituencies. On the other hand, AIUDF is leading in Jania constituency.

After the fourth round of counting of votes in Rangapara, BJP candidate Rajen Bortakur is leading with 11,139 votes in the seat; whereas in Ratabari, after the fifth round of counting of votes, Bijoy Malakar of BJP is leading with 8,800 votes. Similarly, BJP candidate in Sonari, Nabanita Handique, is leading with 978 votes after the second round of counting of votes.

On the other hand, the initial trend shows that the AIUDF candidate in Jania, Rafiqul Islam, is leading in the constituency.

Theby-polls to these constituencies were necessitated after sitting BJP MLAsPallab Lochan Das (Rangapara), Topon Gogoi (Sonari) and Kripanath Mallah(Ratabari) along with Congress MLA Abdul Khaleque (Jania) were elected to theLok Sabha.
