Assam Bandh: Normal life hits in Gossaigaon

The 12-hourAssam Bandh called by the All Assam Koch-Rajbonshi Sanmilani on Thursday has hitthe normal life in Gossaigaon. The bandh has been called against NRC as thenames of 5 lakhs Koch-Rajbonshi people have been excluded from NRC published onAugust 31.

The bandhhas affected the normal life in Gossaigaon and its neighbouring areas as thebusiness establishments, schools and colleges have been closed in the area. Hundredsof trucks have been halted at Srirampur.

The area like Simaltapu, Bhattaraguri, Tulsibeel, Gorufela, Sreerampur under the Gossaigaon subdivision have been affected by the bandh.

President of AAKRS, Bireswar Saikia said that the strike had been observed from 5 am to 5 PM against the insults hurled at the Bhumiputras who have been living in Assam for centuries.

He said thatnearly four lakh people from the Koch Rajbonshis and other indigenouscommunities, especially from the Bodoland Territorial Council and lower Assamwere left out of the NRC as per their estimate.

To protest against these, the AAKRS has called the bandh and demanded the government to include the left out people in the NRC.
