Assam Bandh called by AKRSU turns violent in parts of lower Assam

The 24-hour Assam Bandh called by All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU) has taken a violent turn in several parts of lower Assam as protesters have taken to pelting stones at vehicles.

Protesters have blocked the national highways at Goalpara and Morigaon by burning tyres on the road.

Numerous vehicles have been attacked and glasses broken by bandh supporters at Barpeta Road. Reportedly, some drivers were attacked too.

A photo journalist of Pratidin Time was also attacked and his mobile phone broken by bandh supporters. Many protesters have been arrested by the Police.

The bandh had been called by AKRSU, demanding ST status for their community and a separate state of Kamatapur.
