Pratidin Bureau

Advised by an occultist that "he was ill because of evil spirits"- a father threw his two-and-half-year old daughter into a river to get rid of the 'bad luck' that they associated with her.

The incident took place at Tamulpur area in Baksa district.

Birbal Boro – a 35-year old man was ailing for a long time and driven by superstitious belief, he threw his daughter into the Borolia River.

Later, a team of SDRF led by Tamulpur Police launched a rescue operation and recovered the body. The police have arrested accused Birbal Boro, and started an operation to nab the self-styled occultist and have brought a case against them.

The accused has confessed of throwing his daughter on the advice of a self-styled godman who assured him that the 'sacrifice' will cure his 'unidentified disease'.
