Asom Sahitya Sabha opposes Citizenship Amendment Bill

With the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC)'s visit to Assam for a hearing on Citizenship Amendment Bill, the state has seen an upsurge of protestors both supporting and opposing the Bill. Asom Sahitya Sabha in a press meet held on Tuesday stated that they oppose the proposed Bill.

With organisations such as Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Film fraternity of Assam, a part of Congress committee opposing the proposed Bill, Asom Sahitya Sabha has also come forward in opposing the Bill, saying that it will not allow Assam's identity to be destroyed.

During the meeting, Asom Sahitya Sabha President Paramananda Rajbongshi also said that the organisation has no faith on any political party when it comes to saving the state from illegal migrants.

After the JPC has completed its hearing in Silchar on Wednesday, it will now head to Meghalaya for the hearing on May 10 and 11. The Meghalaya government had already taken its stand in opposition of the amendment Bill.
