Arup Das takes 9 wickets in day 2 to put Assam in commanding position

Pratidin Bureau

After having a mixed day on the field in Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy encounter against Haryana, Assam completely dominated proceedings in Day 2. At the end of day's play, Haryana is at 78-7 in their 2nd innings, still trailing Assam's 1st innings score by 135 runs.

The 2nd day began on a positive note for Assam with Gokul Sharma carrying his Day 1 form ahead. Though Arup Das was dismissed shortly but the tail ably supported Gokul. Gokul Sharma was dismissed just 4 short of a century by India allrounder Jayant Yadav. Mukhtar Hussain played some hard hitting shots towards the end to help Assam break the 300 run barrier. They bundled out for 310.

Arup Das started with a bang and suddenly 310 seemed like a mountain to climb. By the 9th over, Haryana were already 5 wickets down with the score at 22. Jayant Yadav and Harshal Patel tried to steady the ship but the damage had already been done. Haryana in their 1st innings could only play 27.2 overs and managed 97 runs. For Assam, Arup Das was the pick of the bowlers with 5 wickets. Being asked to follow on, Haryana did not have much change in fortunes in their 2nd innings. Arup Das again was the wrecker in chief with 4 wickets. Haryana are slogging at 78-7 in their 2nd innings with another 135 runs required just to make Assam bat again. Assam will look to quickly wrap up the remaining wickets and attain a big win after the dismal performance in the last game.
