Authorities destroyed around 400 kg of hemp cultivated near the Indo-Bangladesh border in the South West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya on Saturday
According to reports, the cultivated hemp was to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
The civil administration, the BSF and the police following a tip off, identified 14 patches of cultivated land of hemp on Friday evening in Kuligaon village, located 5 km from the international border.
Approximately 400 hemp plants in three of the 14 patches were destroyed and the remaining hemp of around 1000 kg in other patches would be destroyed soon, police said.
However, no arrests have been made as yet and investigation is still on in the case, police informed.
