Thecentury old minaret in Puranigudam has been finally shifted to a new location.The shifting has been done to pave way for the four-lane highway in the area. Thewhole process of minaret shifting has been done within a month.

Earlier,people of Puranigudam had decided to preserve the century old minaret and thetwo-storey minaret near the NH 37 in Puranigudam was gradually shifted from itsoriginal site with the help of modern technology.

Irrespective of caste, creed or religion, all the local people in Puranigudam came forward to protect the minaret, which has been shifted 70 feet away from its original site. A Haryana-based company was engaged in the work.

The minaret was built in 1902 by a famous mason from Dhaka. The minaret is made of clay and lime with no inner iron structure. Instead of cement, a paste of rice and eggs was used to construct the minaret. Bamboo was used instead of steel rods in the minaret.
