AJYCP Continues Protest Against Big Dam

The AsomJatiyatabadi Yuba Chattra Parishad (AJYCP) has continued its protest inLakhimpur against the construction of Lower Subansiri Hydro-electric powerproject.

The AJYCP followeda 100-hour blockade to prevent the construction material from being taken tothe site since August 10 in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji which comes to an end onWednesday at 11 am.

The organizationhas also burnt the effigies of Assam Chief Minister, Prime Minister of Indiaand union Power Minister in Lakhimpur demanding to stop the construction of thebig dam.

The NationalHydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) which is constructing the dam said onTuesday that it is all set to resume the project soon. It also said that theproject will be commissioned within four years after its work resumes.
