AASU to stage torch rally against CAB

TheAll Assam Students' Union (AASU) will stage statewide protest against the contentiousCitizenship (Amendment) Bill on Thursday evening. Members of the organisation willparticipate in the torch rally against the Centre's move to re-introduce theCAB.

"Thousandsof AASU supporters, members and leaders will take to the streets across theState raising their voices against the implementation of the controversialbill," informed an AASU member on Thursday morning.

TheBill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to the people belonging to the Hindus,Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis who have become the victims ofreligious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and entered Indiaon or before December 31st, 2014.

It maybe mentioned here that people of Assam as well as other Northeastern Stateshave been continuously opposing the CAB.
