2 RS candidates file nominations today

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Kamakhya Prasad Tasawho has been named for the Rajya Sabha polls has filed nomination papers today.On the other hand, alliance party of BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has fielded formerunion minister Birendra Prasad Baishya.

Both the candidates Tasa and Baishya have filed theirnomination today as it is the last day to file the nomination.

BJP has named Kamakhya Prasad Tasa as its candidate for theRajya Sabha elections from Assam which has been decided by the BJP'slegislative party meet.

Tasa has been working for tea garden workers and was electedto the Lok Sabha in 2014 from the Jorhat seat.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the two Rajya Sabhaseats which is currently held by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh andCongress Leader Santiuse Kujur will fall vacant on June 14.

Former PM Singh has been representing Assam since 1991 in theUpper House.

The two candidates of Rajya Sabha have filed their nominationin the presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and NEDA ConvenerHimanta Biswa Sarma.
