12-Hour Assam Bandh Affects Normal Life

Pratidin Bureau

Protesters were seen burning tyres on the roads and pelting stones at vehicles in some areas during the 12-hour Assam bandh on Monday called in demand of ST status to Adivasi communities of Assam.

The Assam bandh that began at 5 AM, affected the normal life in Upper Assam and in Gossaigaon under Kokrajhar district. Several hundred trucks were stopped at Srirampur.

The bandh was called by All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AASAA), as the Bill regarding ST status to six communities of Assam was not passed in Rajya Sabha on February 9.

Meanwhile, the bandh by Koch-Rajbongshi Sanmilani on 12 February has been called off in view of HSSLC examination.
