Guwahati: Citizens Urge to Save Riverfront in Bharalumukh

The Citizen Coordination Committee has called for a 'Human Chain' programme on Thursday (October 27) in Guwahati against construction of a foot bridge over the bank of Brahmaputra from Sankardev Udyan, Bharalumukh.

The citizens of Guwahati in a statement said that they are surprised to know that the administration has suddenly occupied a large portion in the western side of the Sankardev Udyan situated in the bank of the Brahmaputra.

The citizen coordination committee mentioned that the Sankardev Udyan was started in 1993 and that the local people have actively participated in maintaining the park since its inception.

The local people have opposed the construction of the bridge and raised strong voice to save the park for the scenic beauty.

They said that they will not allow to occupy the park by any authority and to destroy the environment and the trees of the park.

The citizen coordination committee also urged the local people to join the human chain programme tomorrow to save the park.
