Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the nation in response to the ongoing devastating second wave. Covid-19 pandemic.

"This is the deadliest pandemic in the past 100 years. The modern world has not seen such a pandemic. Our country has fought this pandemic at many levels," the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister's address to the nation was deliberated on a day when India reported 1,00,636 new Covid-19 cases and 2,427 deaths, the lowest in 61 days. 

Top Highlights Of PM Modi's Address:

  • 25%  of vaccination work with states to be handled by Centre and it will be implemented in the coming two weeks.
  • Food scheme to be extended till Diwali; 80 crore underprivileged to be given free ration.
  • From June 21, all citizens above 18 years to get free Covid-19 vaccines.
  • Seven companies in the country are producing different vaccines, trial of three more vaccines underway in advanced stage.
  • Research on producing intranasal vaccine for Covid underway.
  • Vaccine supply to increase significantly in India in coming days; Many more vaccines currently at various levels of development.
  • Private hospitals can continue to procure 25 per cent of vaccines, but their service charge would be capped at Rs 150 per dose.
