COVID-19: India Registers Highest Single-Day Death

India registered its highest ever single-day COVID-19 deaths with 6,148 numbers, according to the Union Health Ministry's data updated on Thursday. The country logged 94,052 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the infection tally to 2,91,83,121.

The union health ministry in its latest release stated that the number of active cases dropped to 11,67,952.

The daily COVID cases remained below one lakh for the third straight day.

India's COVID death toll reached 3,59,676 as 6,148 people succumbed to the deadly disease in the last 24 hours, the health ministry data updated at 8 am showed.

With 1,51,367 more patients recovering from the disease, the total recoveries across the country reached 2,76,55,493. The recovery rate increased to 94.77 per cent.

The weekly positivity rate currently stands at 5.43 per cent.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.69 per cent, less than 10% for 17 consecutive days.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 20,04,690 tests were conducted on June 9, taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 37,21,98,253.

Meanwhile, India has crossed a major landmark with more than 24 crore COVID vaccine doses administered so far. As per the data released at 7 am today, so far 19,54,82,945 have received the first dose of the vaccine while 4,72,43,748 have got the second dose.
