Guwahatigears up for Ambubachi Mela to be started from June 22. The festival isscheduled to take place from June 22 to June 26.
Addressinga press conference here at Guwahati, Chairman of Assam Tourism DevelopmentCorporation (ATDC), Jayanta Malla Baruah said that the opening ceremony ofAmbubachi Mela will be held on June 21 at 4 PM.
Baruahsaid that there will be a cultural evening on the same day and renowned singerKailash Kher will also be present in the event.
ATDCChairman also informed that the union tourism minister will inaugurate theevent on June 21.
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is all also set for Ambubachi.
According to reports, GMC, which is responsible forensuring water supply, adequate lighting, proper cleanliness of the camps andtemple premises, sufficient manpower for cleaning works, etc, is all ready toset up 330 water taps in and around the Kamakhya Temple for the convenience ofthe devotees during the Mela.
Meanwhile, the Public Health Engineering Departmentwill reportedly provide drinking water in plastic pouches during the four dayevent.
GMC commissioner Debeswar Malakar has informed that58 workers will be on duty along with 10 supervisors, to ensure propercleanliness.
Itwas witnessed that starting from Saturday, the GMC has begun work for settingup pipes to supply water in the temple premises. It has also informed that itwill increase number of garbage carriers in the area.
DuringAmbubachi, officials from the Food Safety department and the Public HealthLaboratory have been appointed to work in two shifts to ensure food safety forthe devotees.
